French Friday's with Dorie

Okay, it's Saturday.  I'm like the new kid at school who is late with their first homework assignment.

This week we cooked Short Ribs in Red Wine Sauce.  This is from Dorie Greenspan's newest cookbook around my french table

Well, this is not a dish to make after working all day.  It took two evenings of cooking to complete, but this dish is well worth the time.  It takes short ribs which can be tough and fatty and slow cooks them to perfection.  The two day's also allowed me to defat the brasing sauce.  This is a perfect recipe for a cold weekend day.  It makes the house smell great.

Monday night treat

I belong to a CSA and have been receiving apples all winter as my fruit.  I like apples, but I need more ideas of what to do with apples.  I found a recipe in Dorie Greenspan’s new book “around my french table”, I will be cooking from this book a lot.

My treat is called marie-helene’s apple cake.   This is an interesting cake, there is not much batter, just enough to cover the apples.  Here it is in the pan.

Oh is this cake good.

First Blog

Ok, so I'm a Food Blog junkie, so it makes perfect sense to write my own blog.  I have more cookbooks that I can ever use and I cook often. Well as often as a person need to cook for one, but that’s not stopping me from trying new recipes.

I belong to a Supper Club, but we only meet one a month or so, so I found an online cooking club.  This challenges me to cook a new dish every week.  This sound great!, So here I go.
